Step Up To Serve

Announcement – Friday, November 14, 2025

Dear ICDD Network,

Federal SNAP funding to states has stopped as of November 1, 2025, due to the government shutdown. This means thousands of Illinois residents with developmental disabilities could lose access to food. The Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities is sounding the alarm.

IMPORTANT: As we were preparing this message, two judges ruled to block the current federal administration from halting SNAP payments. While this may offer temporary relief, uncertainty remains. Out of an abundance of caution, we are still sharing the following information so the DD community can receive support if needed.

As such, ICDD is calling all doers, donors, and volunteers to let us know if you want to be on standby to support the DD Community in having food access.

If you are ready to Step Up to Serve, please complete this DD Community Food Access Volunteer Form.  When you sign up, we’ll add you to our dedicated volunteer listserv so ICDD staff can contact you as opportunities arise in your community.
