COMPONENT ONE | ILLINOIS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTES

With support from the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, the National Leadership

Consortium on Developmental Disabilities will offer two Illinois Virtual Leadership Institutes to

develop up to forty leaders each Institute from agencies that support people with intellectual and

developmental disabilities in Illinois. The Virtual Illinois Leadership Institutes will be held in 2022.

COMPONENT TWO| FUTURE OF THE FIELD VARIED STAKEHOLDERS TRAINING

The Future of the Field Training will provide a wealth of content on the philosophy of the shift to

individualized, person-directed supports, how to support organizations and employees to make that

shift and provide replicable examples of what those type of supports can lead to and what this service

approach means to the person choosing those supports.

Expected outcomes include:

• A better understanding of the shift to individualized supports, including examples and

strategies, and

• Better preparedness to make changes in line with state and national trends.

This training will be aimed at a diverse group of stakeholders, which could include organizational

leaders, mid-level managers, front-line supervisors, direct support staff, board members, people utilizing

supports, and family members. The specific presenters and engagement activities and materials will be

tailored specifically to this audience. Engagement activities could include Four Corners, Starting from

Ground Zero, Choice vs. Risk, etc.

COMPONENT THREE| ICDD COUNCIL MEMBER DEVELOPMENT

The National Leadership Consortium will facilitate an engaging development training for Illinois

Developmental Disability Council members. The focus of the training will be developed in partnership

with the Illinois Developmental Disabilities Council leadership. Sessions will include instruction, exercises,

large and small group discussion, and individual work.

COMPONENT FOUR| PARTNERS IN POLICYMAKING ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS

Drawing from the expertise of National Leadership Consortium faculty, Illinois Developmental

Disabilities Council and Partners in Policymaking IL leadership, we will offer virtual sessions to provide

Illinois Partners in Policymaking Alumni with opportunities to continue engaging and learning from IDD

sector leaders and each other. Sessions will assure time to share successful strategies and barriers that

impact progress in their ongoing advocacy. Sessions will strengthen the support network that

leaders have to continue to grow with other leaders who are dedicated to creating full lives for

themselves and their children. The National Leadership Consortium will work with ICDD to identify up to

four presenters whose presentations will support alumni to continue to gain the knowledge, skills,

information, values, and partnerships needed to impact meaningful change. A main focus of these

engagement sessions will be on leadership development, continued education, sustaining momentum,

and solidifying a network of dedicated alumni.
